www,rowvenice.org has offered resident lessons to AIWAV members at a special rate so members Marly, Nicole and Laura took advantage of the chance to get on the water on a grey but still February day. First timers, Marly and Nicole both did a great job, standing up and facing forward as the beautiful wooden Batella Coda Di Gambero (Shrimp tailed boat) glided down the canals of the Cannaregio sestiere (borough) and out into the Venetian lagoon.
At one point, a huge flock of cormorants flew over the rowers. This is an extraordinary phenomenon that only happens in Winter when the birds come closer into the city and hunt for food together. A short video can be found on Laura's instagram feed @laurajessicapritchard. Ah the end of the row, the general opinion was that everyone was looking forward to the next lesson and everyone thanked Jane from Row Venice for her expertise. FYI more places could be available for other members later in March/Early April.

On 2nd February, before the madness of Venice Carnival set it, the membership of AIWAV gathered at the lovely home of member Val Oliveira. Two new members, Tamela and Jo-Ann were welcomed and members of the Leadership Team described some of the behind the scenes organisation that has been ongoing since the Autumn. At the end of the evening Val introduced the other members to some of her stunning photography work, more of which can be found at:
