The American International Women’s Association of Venice is very proud to lend support to the Anti-Violence Center of the Municipality of Venice; this morning, AIWAV representatives were given a tour of the center headquarters in Mestre and donated 65lbs of women and children’s clothing for local victims of domestic violence.
The center offers protection and support for women who suffer or are exposed to violence, resulting in physical, sexual, psychological or economic harm or suffering. There are also outreach centers in Cannaregio and Lido as well as Mestre. If you or someone you know needs their help, please do not hesitate to contact the kind, compassionate, and multi-lingual staff at 041 274 4222 (24hr hotline) or cell on WhatsApp active Tuesdays from 9am-5pm and Thursdays from 9am-1pm 366 930 8389

The AIWAV September Meeting was held around San Zaccaria with a visit to the church and in particular it's flooded crypt. Afterwards everyone gathered at Bacaro Risorto where the management made a nice deal of a drink and two cicchetti inclusive. There wasn't any particular news discussed but it was nice to meet a couple of new prospective members
Within the What's App groups however, Constance has done a great job of collecting all the outstanding current subscriptions and Julia finished consulting on the club constitution. She also arranged a vote to confirm the constitution and published it on the website. The August Meeting of the American International Women's Association of Venice was held at member, Brigette's home near San Nicolo dei Mendicoli. It involved a vist to the church where Brigette talked about plague, Laura talked about fallen women and Adair talked about lost treasure.
At the meeting, Laura and Adair presented the new programme of meetings for 23/24 which are themed to include meetings at member's homes, special guest meetings, outdoor activites, give back to the community days, cultural events, a trip outside of the city and an Annual Ball at Carnival. Members Constance and Nicole also brought up the large amount of donations collected on behalf of the women's centre for abused women in Mestre (more to follow in another news post) and Constance was thanked for her sponsoring of this initiative. |
